The Exhibition

Cicatrici opens on 18 July at and remains open until 24 July. The exhibition involves 32 artists, including students and former students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, and is divided into two distinct but complementary exhibition venues: the SecS gallery, Spazio Espositivo della Consulta Studentesca, and the Madonna delle Lacrime Church.

The exhibition is based on a detailed reflection on the theme of gender violence, explored in its many forms, from the internalisation of trauma to the commodification of the body, from pornography to contemporary social and aesthetic stereotypes. The organisation of the gallery into themed rooms, together with the strong symbolic and atmospheric value of the Church of Our Lady of Tears, guides visitors along a unified narrative path, conceived as a narrative climax capable of traversing the different manifestations of violence and the profound consequences it has on individuals and society.
