Vuoti a Rendere (Empty to Return) is an urban regeneration and contemporary art project created with the aim of restoring vitality to unused historic spaces in Colle di Val d'Elsa, giving them a new cultural and social function. The first edition focused on Via Garibaldi, a historic thoroughfare and for decades the commercial heart of the city, now marked by the presence of numerous vacant properties.
From 24 September to 4 October, in conjunction with Archifest 2050, the project took shape as a widespread art exhibition: six historic shops were temporarily converted into small urban galleries, hosting collective exhibitions of contemporary art. Places steeped in memory – such as a former butcher's shop, a dairy or a goldsmith's workshop – were reinterpreted through paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, video art and street art, creating a direct dialogue between the identity of the places and contemporary artistic languages.
The curatorial project, entrusted to Alessio Vigni, involved over thirty artists, selected from among students at the Academies of Florence and Carrara and supported by established artists on the Tuscan scene. The exhibition was accompanied by a programme of cultural events, talks and meetings, reinforcing the role of art as a tool for urban regeneration and collective participation.
